When I was hired by Mark Inman, the director of "Loving Kimberley" I was given a choice: choose a house that was already furnished and adapt it to the story or choose a house that was completely empty and very white. I chose the latter. This way I could have an empty palette for my design. There was just one tiny glitch: I had a kitchen, living room, two halls, and two bedrooms to dress for a budget of $350, plus the whole place had to be painted, I had 7 days prep and no crew. There were a few moments when I asked myself, "what in the hell have I gotten myself into." But with 20 hour work days, Mark providing the large furniture items, help from my friends, and lots of scavenging I made it through and under budget. When the lead actor came to do his scenes he asked when the boy of the house would come home. We said there is no boy, this is a set. All of the following pics are from this house, and all rooms were dressed from scratch. |
